Valia Orfanidou embarked on a journey with her furry companion to explore the historic region that lies approximately 100 kilometers away from Athens. During their nightly strolls by the seaside, they encountered a stray dog wagging its tail in their direction. The canine had been observing them from afar and decided to join their company in search of companionship and belonging, as per Valia’s observation.
The Vagrant Pet, a skilled rescuer, recently posted a song titled “I froze” on YouTube. As a lover of animals residing in Greece, witnessing homeless and neglected dogs wandering around is a common sight. The Vagrant Pet takes it upon herself to protect the vulnerable ones who cannot survive in the city, such as underweight or injured dogs, pregnant females, and young pups. Sadly, millions of lost dogs are believed to be present in Greece, and with the mindset unlikely to change anytime soon, more unfortunate cases are expected to arise. Valia, who devotes her time to various safe houses and rescue organizations in Greece, finds it hard to enjoy outdoor vacations as she either has to purposely ignore the distressed strays or bring them home, adding up to twelve rescued dogs at times.
Valia affectionately nicknamed the dog Blue, and although she may seem a bit wild and uncoordinated at only 7 months old, she is not crazy. Despite her energetic nature, there was something about Blue that spoke to Valia on a deeper level. She could sense the dog’s restlessness and longing for a loving home and human companionship. Blue appeared to be “desperate for a family where she feels like she belongs and craved human interaction.” Valia observed the lovable pup chasing after people and cars on the beach, eagerly wagging her tail and hoping for attention.
Valia spent two sleepless nights trying to figure out how to get Blue off the beach. Eventually, she decided to change the rules of the game to save Lan. Little did she know that her decision would have a surprising outcome, as the gentle wanderer was on a path to become a therapy dog in Holland. Reflecting on her first encounter with Blue at the beach, Valia wonders if perhaps the dog wasn’t asking for help, but instead providing it to those who were unaware of their own good fortune.
